UCO's Passport to India: Fall 2005

For the academic year 2005-2006, the University of Central Oklahoma has planned a number of ongoing and one-time events as we explore one of the oldest civilizations and the largest democracy in the world. Please join us for any or all of these exciting adventures!

Fun and Games! Strain your brain by answering some traditional Indian riddle stories, test your memory with our Photo Memory game, and test your mouse-wielding skills at the Mahabharata archery tournament.

The UCO community and the general public are invited to attend the semi-weekly lectures and performances offered every Monday and Friday at 1 p.m. as part of the Discovering India class. Discovering India features a wide variety of specialists in a number of different areas--something different every day!

And don't miss the Best of Bollywood free film festival, also in Pegasus Theater, at 3:30 p.m. on Saturdays. Check the list of scheduled movies to view a list of the Indian classics and recent hits that will be screened.

Central Station, UCO's student-run café and cooking school, is will add a number of Indian dishes to their menu on December 1. Central Station is located in the Human Environmental Sciences building, next to the Nigh University Center.

Study Sanskrit, the language in which the sacred Hindu texts of ancient India are written.

Monday, September 26: Songs of India UCO Music Faculty vocal recital in the Y-Chapel of Song, 7:30 p.m. Dr. Marilyn Govich and her students will give a preview performance of selections from "Songs of India" in the Discovering India class in Pegasus Theater at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 23.

Saturday, October 1: Free film, Bend it Like Beckham in Pegasus Theater, 3:30 p.m.

Monday, October 3: Mahatma Gandhi's Birthday Celebration. Join us in the Donna Nigh Gallery at the University Center at noon for the unveiling of Gandhi's portrait and a proclamation by Mayor Saundra Naifeh of Edmond.

Saturday, October 8: Free film, Black in Pegasus Theater, 3:30 p.m.

Thursday, October 13: Music and Fashion Show around Broncho Lake, outside the Nigh University Center, 12:30 p.m.

Saturday, October 15: Free film, Monsoon Wedding in Pegasus Theater, 3:30 p.m.

Wednesday, November 2: Sensuous India: Observations on Travel, Development, and India's Expanding Global Prominence, lecture by Dr. Frank Wert, free and open to the public. 1:00 p.m., Business building room 121.

Saturday, November 12: Free film, Lagaan in Pegasus Theater, 3:30 p.m.

Thursday, December 1: Enjoy a multi-course Indian meal at Central Station, UCO's student-run café in the Human Environmental Sciences building, next to Broncho Lake.
